A deciduous Berberis with a slender narrow upright growth habit. Grows to 1m high and 50cm wide. 'Pow Wow' prefers full sun and good drainage. Light green, splashed with cream foliage that is a vivid lime green in Summer with new growth. Autumn foliage is spectacular giving this plant its name 'Pow Wow'. Intense orangey pink to red tones adorn the upright spiky stems in late Autumn and early Winter.

On a quick trip to Cape Town in 2017 we first noticed this compact, dwarf Natal Plum growing in several public landscape installations. Firstly, it was used to grow as a dense ground cover and secondly, it was grown as a low hedge. Carissa macrocarpa 'Green Carpet' has glossy emerald-green leaves and can be used across a range of landscapes from formal clipped gardens, to a spillover plant in coastal plantings. Tolerant of coastal conditions, poor soils and drought once established. A more robust looking plant will be achieved with regular irrigation. Fragrant white star-like flowers in Spring. Edible bright red fruit follow in Summer. Tolerant of mild frosts only. 30cm high x 150cm wide.

A sub-shrub to 80cm with soft, cool, powdery blue plumbago style flowers. Easy to combine with other perennials or sub shrubs due to its versatility and tolerance of soil type, heat and drought. The leaves are leathery and edge in red with the entire plant turning orange in Autumn. A great garden addition.

Often referred to as Silverberry. We have found that in our searing heat during Summer (45℃ +) many plants struggle. Elaeagnus pungens is not one of them. We have pruned our plants into 1m x 1m spheres and in another area as a 1m x 0.5m hedge. The golden bronze new growth has a stunning effect, particularly when plants have been shaped. Very tough and hardy (-5℃ to 45℃) with no supplementary watering. Produces edible berries in Autumn and Winter which contain Omega 3 and Lycopene (reputedly a cancer fighting agent). Elaeagnus harbours nitrogen fixing organisms so is able to grow in poor soils.

Lime green buds open to pure white mop head flowers. In contrast the flowers fade to stunning Autumnal tones. 'Agnes Pavelli' forms a neat compact shrub, smaller than 'Le Cygne'. As with all Hydrangeas, they perform best if protected from direct sunlight in the middle of the day. Makes for a wonderful cut flower that ages beautifully.

A compact and particularly elegant Hydrangea. Beautifully soft pink flowers in alkaline soils and an equally soft blue in acidic conditions. 1-1.2m x 1m. Giving the appearance of a lace cap Hydrangea when the flowers first emerge, 'Emotion' develops into a pretty double flowered mophead form.

Bred in Germany in 1962, 'Leuchtfeuer' is a superb deep pink to rosy red flowering Hydrangea. This compact plant has glossy green foliage (with red edges in Autumn) and blooms over a long period. Add lime to the soil to keep the colour true to the fiery pink. Makes a great cut flower. Leuchtfeuer translates to beacon in English.

Subtle pale pink flowers on a compact 1.2m shrub. Classy, exquisite and tasteful. Particularly pleasing to grow. Like all H. macrophylla forms 'Marie Claire' prefers a shaded position, free drainage, moist soil and minimal root competition. The southern side of a house is ideal. Deciduous. Deep red, almost black stems are the unusual feature of 'Oregon Pride'. Deep violet blooms where soils are acid or raspberry pink on alkaline soils. 'Oregon Pride' is a more recent introduction and is a vigorous upright plant to 1.5m. Best grown in part sun to partial shade in moist humus rich soils.

RHS Award of Garden Merit. A highly aesthetic form of lace cap Hydrangea. The flowers lend themselves to a two tone appearance. Deep pink to red cross shaped sterile bracts surround the small starry lavender pink fertile flowers. The foliage is a strong mid green which gains a deep red Autumn hue once the flowers have faded. In acidic soil the flowers will have a rich purple tone. 1-1.2m high x 1m wide. Deciduous.
