The Sydney Botanical Gardens supports many wonderful plants including the Golden Heliotrope which has been an eye-catching feature in the borders near the café. This Heliotrope requires good access to moisture, excellent drainage and part shade with plenty of indirect light. A native to Peru, reaching 80cm x 80cm. The feature of this plant is the foliage which is a soft golden to lime green tone depending on conditions. It does flower in a lilac mauve colour and is highly fragrant. Frost free.

Native to China, India, Nepal and Pakistan, Eranthemum is invaluable in shady areas beneath trees. Gentian blue flowers are held above the foliage in Spring. It is effective massed, in groups or as a specimen and reaches around a metre in height and width. Eranthemum may survive a light frost here and there but will not survive consistent frost. Lends itself well to shaping and can therefore, with it's dark green foliage be a very effective foil to Iris japonica variegata, Plectranthus 'Silver Shield' or Strobilanthes gossypinus.

Great ground cover beneath trees or in a semi shaded position. Leaf colour varies from green, cream, yellow, chartreuse and bronze. White flowers in mid Autumn. Requires frost free conditions and adequate irrigation. Makes a wonderful hanging basket or container plant - as one or in combination. 20cm tall and spreading to 2m.

Free forming shrub to 3m high, this South American plant is perfect for south eastern Australia where there is no frost. It's main feature is the intense inky purple clusters of tubular flowers from Summer to Autumn. Can be cut back after flowering. Great background plant or feature plant.
