Rudbeckia maxima is native to Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Grown for its large yellow coneflowers, it is equally recognisable for its large blue-green cabbage like basal leaves. A stunning plant that produces flowers on stalks up to 180cm in height. The flowers are up to 8cm across and have strong yellow petals with dark brown tall central cones. Best results are achieved when grown in organically enriched soils with a little extra moisture and plenty of sunshine. We always find it fascinating to find out the origins of the names of the plants we grow. The genus Rudbeckia was named in honour of Olof Rudbeck (1630-1702). He was a Swedish botanist.
