Also known as ‘Blue False Indigo’, Baptisia australis rewards growers with purple-blue spires holding lupin-like flowers. Position in full sun (part shade they will become lanky), with neutral to slightly acidic soils. Baptisia are drought-tolerant, although will always prefer even moisture throughout soil. They can grow to 1-1.2m tall, and have a width of 60-100cm. They pair well with Aster, certain Salvia or Geranium ‘Rozanne’ if you want a sea of purple all year long.
