Hydrangea macrophylla 'Amethyst' is a compact mophead hydrangea producing large, rounded flower heads in Summer. The blooms are typically an amethyst-purple, with flower colour varying from blue-purple in acidic soils to mauve and pink tones in alkaline soils. Dark green foliage provides a lush backdrop to the colourful display.
Ideal for smaller gardens, shaded to part-shaded borders and large containers, 'Amethyst' grows to approximately 1.2m × 1.2m. It thrives in fertile, moist, well-drained soil with protection from the hot afternoon sun and rewards gardeners with an abundance of long-lasting blooms each season.
