Common name of the Brazilian Red Cloak, although it is native to rainforests of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Venezuela. Sub-tropical to tropical, it grows well in frost free zones, along Australia's east coast. Deep pink/red bracts surround small white flowers in spikes of up to 25cm and and appear on 1.5-2m shrubs in Autumn to Winter. Large mid-green leaves with a hint of lime have an aesthetic appearance. Can be grown as a hedge or specimen plant. Responds well to pruning.
