Native to North America. This Rudbeckia is distinctively different to Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' and deamii as it flowers six weeks later than both of the above. A true Autumn flowering Black -Eyed Susan! …. And it can flower for up to ten weeks. The foliage is shiny and deep green and finer in form than any other Rudbeckia. A welcome addition to the Rudbeckia group. Planted en masse in American public gardens, used in the 'new perennial movement', prairie gardens or just to brighten up the garden. Herbaceous. Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' has been a very popular plant worldwide for many years and with good reason. 'Little Goldstar' is a more compact plant, standing knee high and producing a higher flower count than 'Goldsturm'. Masses of golden yellow blooms with dark chocolate brown centres are produced in Summer. A wonderful new addition. Flowers well alongside Asters, Sedums and Ornamental Grasses.

Rudbeckia maxima is native to Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Grown for its large yellow coneflowers, it is equally recognisable for its large blue-green cabbage like basal leaves. A stunning plant that produces flowers on stalks up to 180cm in height. The flowers are up to 8cm across and have strong yellow petals with dark brown tall central cones. Best results are achieved when grown in organically enriched soils with a little extra moisture and plenty of sunshine. We always find it fascinating to find out the origins of the names of the plants we grow. The genus Rudbeckia was named in honour of Olof Rudbeck (1630-1702). He was a Swedish botanist.

Ruscus hypoglossum is a fabulous plant for dry shady areas. Indispensable and very valuable for it will grow in the driest darkest conditions. We have used it many times to solve 'planting issues'. The foliage makes great material for floral arrangements and has its own intriguing botanical twist - the apparent leaves are actually modified stems (cladodes). The flowers then appear in the centre of these cladodes. Grows 1m high x 1m wide. Evergreen perennial that looks more like a shrub. Ruscus can be loosely hedged and looks best en masse.

First discovered in 1937 at the Californian Botanic Garden by Allen Chickering, this hybrid between Salvia clevelandii and Salvia leucophylla is grown for its lavender blue flowers forming a tier of whorls. Flowering period is Spring through to early Summer and is quite an eye catcher. We have found it needs excellent drainage and lots of sun to perform at its best at 1.5m x 1m this needs space to grow. It can't be cut down like some other Salvias as it doesn't come back well from heavy pruning.
