Phlomis lanata is endemic to Crete where it can be found growing on rocky soils along cliffs. Hence it handles hot dry conditions with good drainage. It is a low compact shrub to 60cm and over time 1.2m wide. The wooly grey leaves with a hint of gold make a well rounded mound. The lemon yellow flowers, arranged in whorls rise above the foliage in late Spring. Phlomis lanata received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 2002. It took us 3 years to really appreciate this fabulous plant as it is initially slow to grow. Now however, it draws attention even without flowers.

This is our favourite Phlomis with an excellent compact form. An intriguing plant, Phlomis platystegia is native to Israel and Jordon. Whorls of strong yellow flowers appear in late Winter and Spring. The foliage is distinctive in that it is olive green on the upper surface and has silver white hairs on the lower surface. These hairs accentuate the wavy leaf margin. It is essential that this Phlomis is planted in a sunny well drained position. One of the few plants to thrive during our hot 2019 drought. Frost tolerant. 1m x 1m.

In our attempt to experiment with native grasses for landscape use we found Poa gunnii. This Poa is a Tasmanian endemic tussock grass that grows well in alpine regions and on the coast in Tasmania. We have found that it makes a great balcony container plant in our extreme climate (nothing like Tassie). We are conducting more in-ground trials but thought we would offer a few for sale for anyone else willing to experiment. Suggested for cooler climes. 60 x 60cm.

Beautiful silver blue upright foliage is this native grass' main feature. We've loved this grass ever since we acquired it over 15 years ago. It can reach over 150cm in good soil, less in poorer soils. Tough.

Punica granatum 'Double Orange'
Sold out
Visit product page →Buy 1 for $12.00/ Buy 5 for $50.00
An insanely double hot orange congested flower. Grow it purely for the intensity of colour. Not a prolific producer of fruit - maybe some will form, maybe not. Grows to about 2m high with a multi-trunked vase shape. The glossy green leaves turn colour in Autumn to an electric yellow before falling off. 'Tough as an old boot'. The only requirement is an adequately drained position. Drought, frost, heat and wind tolerant.
