The wet weather of the last two years has rendered most Rosemary varieties unable to handle our conditions. 'Salem' has stood out to withstand wet, clay soils as well as the dry. This Rosemary was bred in Salem, North Carolina for a better tolerance of humidity than other Rosemary types. It also is relatively compact 90cm x 60cm and responds well to clipping to shape. 'Salem' is a good oil producer and has rich blue flowers. Prefers well drained soils but is more forgiving of wetter soils than most Rosemary varieties. 'Salem' has a strong upright form lending itself to hedging and more formal applications.
