A graceful, cool-climate ornamental grass that brings movement, texture and year-round interest to the garden. Neat mounds of fine, arching green foliage are topped from late spring through summer with airy clouds of delicate, shimmering flower panicles that dance in the slightest breeze, ageing to warm golden tones and persisting well into autumn.
Adaptable and easy to grow, Deschampsia cespitosa thrives in full sun to part shade and performs particularly well in cooler regions of Australia. It tolerates heavier soils and regular moisture, making it an excellent choice for rain gardens, naturalistic plantings, cottage gardens and alongside ponds or water features. It also combines beautifully with flowering perennials, adding softness and contrast throughout the seasons. Approx. 60 x 60cm with flowering stems reaching up to 1m tall.
Fun Fact: Native to cool temperate regions of Europe, Asia, North America as well as occurring naturally in alpine and subalpine areas of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
