Native to the Balkans and Turkey, Dianthus cruentus thrives in poor, well drained soil in full sun. Grass like foliage supports the deep blood-red flowers which are held high on thin wiry stems. We have this 'blood carnation' in our gravel garden but it would be equally striking planted amongst ornamental grasses on wild meadow-like gardens. 60cm high x 20cm wide.

We always admired Isoplexis canariensis but haven't had the joy of successfully growing it in Gloucester. However due to the hybridization of Isoplexis and Digitalis we now enjoy the upright spires of flowers in mid Spring onwards. 'Firecracker' is our favourite, with a mix of burnt orange, apricot and gold. 60cm high x 50cm wide. Frost hardy. Needs regular summer watering.

Breeding experiments between two genus, Digitalis and Isoplexis have resulted in hybrid Digitalis in various colours. Charles Valin is the pioneering breeder, hence these plants fittingly recognised as Digitalis x valinii to honour his work.
Illumination® Raspberry is a wonderful addition to this series of plants. The burnt pink raspberry flowers backed by chocolate brown stem spikes makes this plant really easy to use in the garden. Height to 90cm. Full sun, good drainage and enriched soil is ideal for best performance. -
Dyckia 'Red Star'
Sold out
This plant is currently unavailable.
We had never really thought too much about Dyckia previously. That was, ntil we visited the Melbourne Botanic Gardens where Dyckia 'Red Star' was used in both succulent gardens and amongst perennial plantings. Not only do they have striking foliage but the dusky orange flowers are impressive as well. Dyckias are xerographic and survive long periods without water by going dormant. These plants are tough, handling freezing temperatures, drought and high heat. We are very pleased to offer Dyckia 'Red Star' as our first Dyckia with hopefully many more to come.
